MESSAGE FROM THE STEERING COMMITTEE
The International Conference on the Mechanisms and Treatment of Neuropathic Pain is now in its eleventh year. We designed this conference to be different from the numerous other pain meetings that are held each year, and we have two primary goals.
Our first goal is to review the most recent advances in understanding mechanisms and improving treatment in patients with neuropathic pain. Ongoing research has led to an increased understanding of the pathophysiology of neuropathic pain, and this information has important implications for treatment. In addition, the results of randomized clinical trials published within the past several years and the development of new therapies require that approaches to treating patients with neuropathic pain be reviewed and revised on a regular basis.
Our second goal is to provide multiple opportunities for participant interaction. We include ample time in the program for discussion of the presentations. There will be lunch and dinner sessions with presentations and discussion of several timely issues related to the assessment and treatment of neuropathic pain.
Our previous meetings have been successful in generating ideas for future studies, research collaborations among the participants, and new approaches for treating patients with neuropathic pain. The participation of individuals from government agencies and the pharmaceutical industry has also facilitated discussion of ongoing and upcoming clinical research on neuropathic pain. We look forward to welcoming you to another successful conference.
